The errors in translation can always tarnish the business image or the reputation of the country in the global setting. Poor English Translation on Public signs has been a common manifestation in Shanghai China.
As efficient means to provide convenience for the foreign guests in the course of dealing with business and tourism, China is planning to fix all the poor English translation on the public signs. This will strengthen communication between China and foreigners as it help give a clear direction to foreigners in the city.
according to the report by CCTV, the local Television in China, the improper and nonstandard translation may be history after January next year as the city will begin cleaning up all poor translations.
However, the reports say there has been mixed reactions among the foreigners with many supporting and appreciating the move by the Chinese Government and some saying it is not necessary!
The report by CCTV also says that this scenario strikes accord with one local language expert Wu Yun who says Chinglish is a natural phenomenon and should be accepted. For instance the usage of the Chinglish term "Long Time No See" has been widely accepted and used in English speaking Countries. Just because it will give us a very interesting cultural phenomenon and we can find the interaction between Chinese and English Cultures.
